Bay of Plenty was named by Captain James Cook, when he circumnavigated New Zealand in the
Endeavour in 1769-70, in recognition of the regions abundant natural resources.
With a history of producing some of New Zealand's finest food and horticultural produce, the Bay of Plenty sports a flourishing food sector. Food Bay of Plenty was established in 1998 to stimulate commercial opportunities and contribute experience and expertise to the development of a food rich region.
